Cents of
Hope
A penny. One
cent. The smallest denomination of money we
have in America. We don't even bother picking
it up, when we see one on the ground. Worth almost nothing ... right?
NOT THIS YEAR! All throughout 2008, The Word
FM is collecting pennies to help feed hungry
children in Honduras, and we need YOUR help!

BIG
THANKS (and Happy Birthday) to Calvin (6) and Tyler
(3) Derstein, who collected pennies at -- believe it
or not -- their BIRTHDAY PARTY! Altogether,
the party brought in 2120 "cents" for the
Dave Fund, and more importantly, for kids just like
Calvin & Tyler! Way to go -- and thank you!
We
SO appreciate Aven, Steve and the staff at WSG
Solutions in Montgomeryville for bringing in
breakfast for the morning team ... and a total of
3153 "cents". That means Dave & Emily ate
for a morning and more than 31 kids in Honduras are
going to eat for an entire day!
Thank you, WSG Solutions!
There's
a new Cents of Hope business partner in town --
thanks to Erin's Salon, 250 W. Ridge Pike in
Limerick (MAP IT!)
for signing on as a penny drop-off point! You
can bring your pennies by the salon Tuesday,
Wednesday & Thursday between 10 and 7, and Friday
between 10 and 4.

WHAT'S "CENTS OF
HOPE" ALL ABOUT?
Did you know that a child
suffering from malnutrition and poverty can be
fed for ABOUT $1 PER DAY?
The MAMA Project
is a local ministry that has been working in
Honduras since 1987, specifically in the
nutritional rehabilitation of severely
malnourished children.
Join The Word FM to help us make a change in the
lives of these children -- one penny at a time. |

So what can you do
to help? Simple ... just COLLECT
PENNIES. From the change you get each day,
from the cup holder in your car, from your couch
cushions ... even start picking them up off the
sidewalk! This collection will be a "marathon"
rather than a "sprint", and we know over the course
of the year, we can touch many, many lives with this
project! Here are some other ideas:
Make it a family
project! Set up a jar or special piggy bank in
the house specifically for "Cents of Hope".
To make a special donation can,
feel free to print our "Cents
of Hope" label HERE --
larger/rectangle
or
smaller/square.
Encourage the kids to
do their part, and use it as an opportunity to teach
them about the needs of the world, and how their
small contributions can add up in big ways for
hungry children.
Get your Sunday
School class or small group involved. Appoint
a "treasurer" and have members bring their pennies
to each meeting.
Encourage your
co-workers and employees to get involved --set up a
donation container at your desk that they can
contribute to!
Have customers
coming in and out of your business? We invite
you to place a special "Cents of Hope" donation
canister --

Churches, we'd LOVE to
have you participate as well --

INFO.
Be creative!
Whatever idea you have to gather pennies for the
project -- AS LONG AS IT'S LEGAL (!) -- go for it!

WHERE DO I DROP OFF MY PENNIES?
The Word FM will be receiving your penny donations
at public appearances, including remote broadcasts
and local concerts throughout 2008. Be
listening -- and watching the website -- for info on
when and where to bring your pennies to add to the
total.

* Big
thanks to the staff and patrons of the Energy
Station in Vernfield/Harleysville, who collected a
total of 7721 "cents"! Because of your
generosity, children in Honduras will be eating
ALMOST as good as those who go to the Energy
Station!
* Thanks
to everyone who stopped by the Word FM table at
Creation 2008 and donated to "Cents of Hope".
Thanks also to Jess & Dean, who undertook their own
collection project at Creation this year -- we
appreciate you guys so much! In total, we
brought back 12357 "cents" from Creation, as
well as another $56.00 in paper money!
* After
making their final penny "deposit" for the school
year, the students, staff and friends of
Penn View
Christian School in Souderton posted a grand
total of 173708 "cents", plus an additional
$618 in paper money. Way to go, Penn View!

* Quakertown
Christian School made their final penny
"installment" for the school year, contributing a
whopping 154227 "cents' to the Emily Fund!
I don't know who was more overwhelmed -- Emily, to
add such an incredible number to her total, or the
staff at
Commerce Bank in Quakertown, as it took over 2
hours to process all this change!
* Emily
Ralph visited with the students and staff of
Conestoga Christian School, and not only collected
OVER 30,000 pennies, but also was treated to a
special song --
CLICK TO HEAR IT! Thanks so much,
Conestoga!

* Talk
about "a little doing a lot"! The children and
staff of Rainbow Express Preschool at Grace
Mennonite Church (Lansdale) did a WHOLE lot for
hungry kids in Honduras. Recently Emily & Dave
stopped by to tell them about the work of the MAMA
Project, and how their 69426 pennies would be
feeding a lot of kids, just like them! These
young children's efforts are an inspiration to all
of us!

*Since
the beginning of the year, customers at Berean
Christian Store (Souderton) have donated 7847
"cents" plus $21.00 in paper money in the countertop
collection jars they've placed! Just another
example of a little bit of change from many people
adding up to do big things!
* To
date, the Adult Bible Fellowship at Calvary Church
(Souderton) has delivered 30341 "cents", plus
some paper money, to The Word FM. Thanks to
Kim & Mike Awckland and family, for organizing this
collection (including making some great collection
jars)!
* BIG
THANKS to Zion's Stone Church of New Ringgold and
Pastor Michael Frost, who delivered "145 lbs." of
pennies -- it totaled 25769 "cents"!
* Concert
goers to the "Green Tee Tour" with Hawk Nelson & Run
Kid Run brought their pennies, and The Word FM table
became quite the "battle ground" for the Dave vs.
Emily side contest! Overall, we collected
24476 "cents" for the evening ... thank you!!!
* Kristine
McClain & Emily Ralph visit Lehigh Valley
Lutheran School (Whitehall), and collected
5861 pennies.
